A wetsuit is particularly suitable for swimmers and triathletes who want to protect themselves from cold water, but also maintain buoyancy and enhance propulsion. In general, wetsuits provide improved body position, which should make the athlete faster. In addition, the wetsuits have a hydrophobic (water-repellent) coating that lets you move faster through the water. In combination with the improved body position thanks to buoyancy, a wetsuit provides you with fast swimming times in competition as well as in training.

Wetsuit/Non-Wetsuit rules vary by competition. In IRONMAN events and World Triathlon events where the swim is over 1500m, wetsuits can be worn by age group athletes up to 76.1 degrees and by pro athletes up to 71.6 degrees. In World Triathlon events where the swim is 1500m or less wetsuits are allowed for age group athletes up to 71.6 and for pro athletes up to 68 degrees. In USA Triathlon sanctioned events wetsuits may be worn by age group athletes up to 78 degrees and by pro athletes adhere to the World Triathlon events wetsuit rules in USA Triathlon events. Check the event rules and regulations before race morning as these may differ by event.
Our wetsuits have a maximum material thickness, limited by the rules of World Triathlon, of up to 5 mm in any given area of the wetsuit. If water temperatures are below 60 degrees we recommend considering neoprene accessories like head, hands and foot coverings as additional protection against the cold.

For hygiene and durability reasons, a triathlon wetsuit should be cleaned after swimming, because sweat, salt or chlorinated water will attack the material. It is enough to wash it with water after swimming and wash it once a week.
