How To Swim In Cold Water

How To Swim In Cold Water

Temperatures are on the rise, but depending on where you are your oceans, rivers and lakes may still be a bit chilly!

With the right gear and the right approach, that cold water swim can be just the thing to kickstart the season. Here are a few tips:

  1. Be prepared: Have your towel, swim parka and some warm clothes ready post-swim.
  2. Warm up: A short jog and some dry land drills will make it easier for your body to handle the initial shock of the cold water. Ease into the water and do some 30 second out and back bouts before a longer swim session.
  3. Be safe: Don't swim alone.  Bring a swim partner, a paddler or someone to watch from the shore. We also recommend using a personal safety buoy.
  4. Have the right gear: The checklist. Wetsuit // Neoprene Cap, gloves and socks // Personal Safety Buoy // Swim Parka & Towels
